Peter Obi has called on Nigerian leaders to focus on the well-being of the nation’s citizens, criticizing the absence of both the President and Vice President during a period of significant domestic challenges. Obi expressed concern over the President’s extended absence, despite a promised 14-day trip, and stressed the urgency for leadership in addressing the country’s pressing issues.
“One would have expected him to return earlier than expected, considering the volume of work that needs to be done in a troubled nation like ours,” Obi remarked, highlighting the importance of active leadership during difficult times.
He also pointed out the missed opportunity for the President to attend a two-day working visit in Stockholm, Sweden, while already in Paris, France—a decision he believes would have been more cost-effective. Instead, the Vice President was sent to travel over 3055 nautical miles from Abuja, Nigeria, to Stockholm, incurring greater expenses at a time when national resources are scarce.
Obi emphasized the need for decisions that reflect fiscal responsibility and a commitment to the people’s well-being, especially as the country faces severe hunger and poverty. “This is the time to show true and committed leadership to the people by making decisions that prioritize the well-being of the people and effective management of the nation’s scarce resources,” he concluded.
