Lagos State, Nigeria (ABNews)– Pastor Gideon Oyedepo has called upon Nigeria’s public office holders to pursue genuine reform, urging them to prioritize integrity, transparency, and their constituents’ welfare. He emphasized that the issues plaguing the nation—poverty, corruption, and deteriorating leadership—stem from a breakdown in moral values and accountability.

Reflecting on Ephesians 4:22, which encourages people to abandon the “corrupted” ways of their former selves, Pastor Oyedepo highlighted how deceitful desires have led many leaders astray, ultimately driving Nigeria into a “degenerate” and “unsound” state. He warned that where corruption thrives, poverty follows, impacting not only the immediate lives of Nigerians but also compromising the future of the country.

In his message, Pastor Oyedepo underlined that corruption is not just a human failing but a moral violation of divine laws, a breach that he believes incurs divine judgment. “The violation of God’s divine injunction leads to corruption,” he explained, pointing to the moral implications that corruption has in obstructing justice, equality, and development.

Pastor Oyedepo further emphasized that true leadership is rooted in righteousness and holiness. He argued that transformation must begin with leaders abandoning selfish pursuits and aligning with God’s values. “Let no corrupt person forget his poverty,” he stated, warning that those who ignore divine order will find themselves “eternally enslaved” by poverty.

Additionally, Pastor Oyedepo urged political appointees to focus on developing their constituencies, addressing their needs, and prioritizing the welfare of their communities over personal gains. He concluded with a prayer for grace, calling on leaders to repent and seek God’s guidance to deliver Nigeria from its current crises.
