Kwara State University (KWASU) is set to commence academic sessions at its newly established campuses in Osi and Ilesha Baruba, as announced by the university’s management. The initiative represents a major stride in the institution’s commitment to expanding its reach and enhancing academic opportunities across the state.
The spokesperson for KWASU, Mansurat Amuda-Kannike, stated on Sunday that the state government’s investments in infrastructural development have been pivotal in preparing the campuses for use. The Osi campus, located in the southern senatorial district, will welcome students from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts under the Faculty of Environmental Sciences starting Monday. Meanwhile, the Ilesha Baruba campus, situated in the northern senatorial district, is set to begin hosting students from the Faculty of Agriculture in January 2025.
Progress on Osi Campus Development
Mary Arinde, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, provided updates during an inspection visit to the Osi campus. Accompanied by the Head of Osi Campus, Binta Sulyman, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, she expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of construction.
“Construction is 98 per cent complete, and we are adding finishing touches. The quality of the work is exceptional, and the environment is being prepared to provide a conducive atmosphere for learning,” Arinde remarked.

Key infrastructure on the Osi campus includes lecture theatres, an auditorium with a capacity of up to 2,000 seats, offices, and recreational facilities. Additional features, such as road networks, interlocking pathways, and solar-powered streetlights, are nearing completion.
Facilities Ready for Academic Activities
Dr. Binta Sulyman highlighted the campus’s readiness to support academic and extracurricular activities. Fully equipped studios, conference rooms, and computer-based testing (CBT) centers are in place, alongside accommodations for staff and students.
“Students of Fine and Applied Arts are ready to begin their lectures next week, with additional programs like Estate Management, Urban and Regional Planning, and Architecture slated to commence in January,” Sulyman added.
Impact of the New Campuses
These developments mark a significant milestone in KWASU’s efforts to decentralize education and provide specialized training across disciplines. The Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses aim to attract students statewide, offering modern facilities and creating hubs for academic excellence in their respective regions.
The initiative reflects the state government’s dedication to education and infrastructure, setting the stage for a more robust and inclusive academic environment in Kwara State.
