In an unprecedented event that reshaped the narrative of leadership transitions within the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) in Kwara State, Hon. Abdulazeez Yakubu Tinuola broke new ground by handing over power to his deputy—a first in the union’s history.
Held at the prestigious Kwara State Banquet Hall, Ilorin, the ceremony drew a constellation of dignitaries, including representatives of the Kwara State Governor, the Emir of Ilorin, and the Commissioner for Works and Transportation. The Executive Chairperson of KWIRS, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Transport, and delegates from NURTW, RTEAN, and TOAN also graced the event, underscoring its significance.
Hon. Tinuola’s tenure marked a turning point for Kwara’s Okada riders. From uniting fragmented associations to forming the federally recognized MOUN, he brought structure and recognition to a once-disorganized sector. His leadership extended to the national stage, becoming the first representative of Kwara’s commercial motorcyclists at the federal level.
Beyond structural reforms, Tinuola tackled hooliganism head-on by empowering youth through self-employment initiatives. His administration provided motorcycles for budding entrepreneurs and encouraged the formation of new branches, reducing unrest and promoting economic growth. Additionally, his introduction of an Elders’ Forum ensured inclusivity and wisdom in decision-making, with elder members receiving stipends for their contributions.
Tinuola’s tenure was also defined by strategic decision-making during national protests, shielding the Okada community from conflicts and ensuring their safety.
