Youth Empowerment Tops Agenda at Kwara South Summit

The need to prioritize youth empowerment as a catalyst for regional transformation dominated discussions at the Kwara South Development Initiative Summit held in Abuja. The event, convened by Dr. Johnson Bamidele Adewumi, proprietor of Thomas Adewumi University, Oko, brought together prominent leaders and stakeholders to chart a sustainable development path for Kwara South.

The summit featured notable figures such as Prince Sunday Fagbemi, APC Chairman of Kwara State; Hon. Abdulazeez Yakubu, Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government; chairpersons of the seven local governments in Kwara South; and Hon. Ganiyu Gabriel Abolarin. Also present were the Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Chief Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin Oloriewe, and other key stakeholders.

Discussions underscored the critical role of youth in driving development. Dr. Adewumi, in his keynote address, emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for young people through education, skill acquisition, and entrepreneurship. He noted, “Our youth are the backbone of Kwara South. Investing in their future is investing in the future of the region.”

Hon. Abdulazeez Yakubu and other speakers called for innovative policies to address youth unemployment, improve access to quality education, and support small businesses run by young entrepreneurs. Prince Sunday Fagbemi highlighted the need for mentorship programs to equip the younger generation with leadership skills and foster a sense of responsibility.

The summit concluded with a commitment to implement actionable strategies that empower youth and position them as key drivers of socio-economic growth in Kwara South. Stakeholders agreed that only by harnessing the potential of the region’s youth can sustainable development be achieved.
