In a recent statement, Hon. Wole Akindele, a renowned political analyst, shed light on the reasons behind the postponement of the Ekiti State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Congress, expressing confidence in the party’s strengthened future.

Akindele emphasized that the delay reflects the party’s commitment to an inclusive and participative process, aimed at ensuring the emergence of the best executives across all levels, devoid of rancor and selfish interests.

The announcement of the postponement was made on January 14th by Chief Dare Adeleke, the state caretaker chairman, following the cancellation of a crucial meeting between Ekiti leaders, stakeholders, and the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde. The meeting was intended to broker peace among various factions within the party.

Ekiti State PDP leaders had sought this dialogue with Governor Makinde to foster unity and ensure a congress outcome that would be widely accepted. Despite criticisms from some party members who alleged that the decision to postpone was unilateral, Adeleke clarified that it was a collective resolution agreed upon by the party’s notable leaders in the state.

Supporting Adeleke’s stance, no party leader has publicly dissociated themselves from the decision, underscoring the chairman’s claim that the postponement was a consensus move.

Adeleke assured party members that the postponement would not exceed two weeks and that the meeting with Governor Makinde would be rescheduled promptly.

Akindele called for unwavering support for the caretaker chairman during this critical period to ensure a smooth and conflict-free congress, aiming for a united front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti.

Reflecting on the party’s past electoral losses, Akindele urged leaders to make necessary sacrifices to prevent a repeat of the previous divided approach. He highlighted that the list of executives for the 177 wards and 16 local governments had been ratified last year, with stakeholders resolving any arising complaints.

With the additional two-week window, Akindele believes the party’s leaders have a crucial opportunity to refine strategies and build stronger collaborations, ultimately positioning the PDP to reclaim governance in Ekiti State by 2026.
