The Anambra State security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi*, also known as *Agunechemba, has demolished Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites, popularly referred to as “La Cruise Hotel,” located along the Onitsha-Owerri Road. The hotel was reportedly used as a hideout for kidnappers and other criminal elements.
A statement released by the Anambra State New Media late Saturday night disclosed that over 30 graves were discovered on the top floor of the two-story building, alongside a shrine. Security operatives also recovered live ammunition, cartridges, and other incriminating items from the site.
In a widely circulated video, the leader of the security operation explained that the shrine and graves were located on the hotel’s upper floor, where spiritual activities allegedly took place. “We found live ammunition, cartridges, and a pot containing blood-like substances, which have been handed over to the police at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office in Awkuzu as evidence,” he said. Feathers and other ritualistic items were also recovered.

Speaking to Sahara Reporters, Mr. Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, confirmed the incident and the subsequent demolition of the property. According to him, the hotel was identified through investigations as a hub for criminal activities, including kidnapping. He further noted that items such as army uniforms were found at the location.
“The community had long suspected the hotel as a base for criminals, with frequent gunfire heard at night. However, fear of reprisal prevented residents from reporting to authorities,” Aburime stated. He emphasized that with the implementation of the 2025 Homeland Security Law, it is now easier to identify and tackle criminal activities in the state.
The demolition was welcomed by residents, who had been living in fear due to the hotel’s notoriety. The government has vowed to continue its crackdown on crime, with plans to demolish any properties linked to criminal activities. “Buildings tied to kidnapping, robbery, or any form of criminality will be destroyed, and their owners will face prosecution,” Aburime added.
This decisive action is part of Governor Soludo’s broader efforts to rid Anambra State of crime and restore public confidence in the government’s ability to maintain law and order.
