The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will not facilitate admissions into the Law programmes of eight Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session. This decision follows the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in the affected institutions by the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

The universities affected by this directive include:

  1. Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State
  2. Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
  3. Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State
  4. Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
  5. Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
  6. Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
  7. Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
  8. Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State

In an official statement released by JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board emphasized that the suspension was a direct consequence of the CLE’s decision to put a hold on the LL.B programme in the listed universities for the upcoming academic session. The regulatory action underscores the CLE’s mandate to ensure that legal education in Nigeria meets required standards and that law faculties in tertiary institutions operate within approved guidelines.

Unlike the other institutions affected, the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, faces a prolonged suspension, spanning two academic sessions—2025/2026 and 2026/2027. Consequently, candidates intending to apply for admission into the academy’s Law programme will not be eligible for registration until the ban is lifted.

As a result of this suspension, JAMB has made it clear that it will not approve or process admissions for Law applicants in the affected universities. Prospective candidates seeking to study Law are therefore advised to explore alternative institutions with accredited and approved LL.B programmes.

The Council of Legal Education, in collaboration with JAMB, remains committed to maintaining the integrity and quality of legal education in Nigeria, ensuring that graduates from accredited faculties of law are adequately prepared for legal practice.
