Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has refuted claims that he is against political coalitions, stating that his stance was misrepresented by media outlets following a recent interview.
In a statement released via his official Twitter handle, Obi emphasized that he supports coalitions but only if they are aimed at repositioning Nigeria for greatness rather than serving as a mere power grab.
“I have not, and will never, advocate for any coalition or alliance that does not prioritize the welfare and progress of the ordinary Nigerian,” Obi stated. He stressed that governance discussions must focus on addressing critical issues such as access to quality healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation.
Obi condemned past political alliances that were formed solely to seize power without a clear vision, noting that such arrangements have worsened Nigeria’s challenges and left citizens suffering from bad governance.
“Leadership must be about service, not self-interest. It must be about building a nation where opportunities abound for all, where justice and equity are non-negotiable, and where governance works for the people, not against them,” he added.
Reaffirming his vision for a “New Nigeria,” Obi insisted that power should be used responsibly to transform lives and secure a better future.
