The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu directed the Lagos State House of Assembly to reinstate Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, describing the allegations as misinformation.
Recent reports, notably from Peoples Gazette, suggested that Tinubu intervened to facilitate Obasa’s return after his impeachment on January 13, 2025. The report, citing unnamed sources, claimed that the president urged lawmakers to reinstate Obasa to prevent potential political fallout.
However, a senior legislative aide has refuted these claims, stating that there is no directive from the Presidency regarding Obasa’s reinstatement. The aide labeled the reports as a “deliberate misinformation campaign” aimed at destabilizing the Assembly.
Similarly, a government official close to Speaker Mojisola Meranda confirmed that she retains the support of key political figures, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC). The official dismissed any notion of overturning her leadership, calling such claims baseless.
With no official confirmation from the Presidency and denials from credible sources within the state government, the reports of Tinubu’s directive remain unverified.
