In a major policy move marking his first 100 days in office, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpeholo, has approved the long-awaited promotion of 8,476 primary and junior secondary school teachers across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas. The directive, which covers promotions from 2022 to January 2024, is aimed at revitalizing the teaching workforce and enhancing the quality of education in Edo State.
The Executive Chairman of Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo-SUBEB), Barr. Mrs. Onomen Goodness Briggs, described the decision as a testament to Governor Okpeholo’s unwavering commitment to teachers’ welfare and educational development.
“It is the commitment of Governor Monday Okpeholo to ensure that every teacher receives the recognition he or she deserves. By directing the release of these promotion letters, Governor Okpeholo is not only acknowledging their hard work but also taking a firm step towards enhancing the overall quality of education in Edo State,” she stated.
Expressing gratitude to the governor, Mrs. Briggs emphasized the significance of the move in boosting morale within the teaching community.
“Governor Okpeholo’s proactive approach has breathed new life into the basic education sector. Our collaborative efforts are geared towards a comprehensive reform that prioritizes our educators and, ultimately, our students,” she added.
Stakeholders across the education sector have lauded the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve classroom performance and create a more dynamic learning environment. The move also addresses years of stagnation in career progression, which had dampened motivation among teachers.
“This bold action underscores Governor Okpeholo’s dedication to transforming the education sector and ensuring that past administrative delays do not impede progress. As his administration continues to roll out reforms, this directive serves as a clear indicator of his resolve to address systemic challenges and deliver tangible results within his first 100 days in office,” Barr. Briggs affirmed.
With further educational reforms reportedly in the pipeline, the Edo State government remains committed to prioritizing teachers’ welfare, ensuring that timely recognition and support for educators become a cornerstone of the state’s development agenda.
