Oye-Ekiti was thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Leramo Caleb and his wife in a shocking domestic incident. The circumstances surrounding their deaths have left many in disbelief, particularly those who knew ASP Caleb as a dedicated police prosecutor.
A close friend of the late officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described Caleb as a well-known figure in Ado-Ekiti, particularly around the court premises at Fajuyi Park. “He was a focused and courageous prosecutor. I always loved attending court proceedings where he handled cases before his transfer to Oye-Ekiti after a police restructuring,” the friend recounted.
According to the source, ASP Caleb had been dealing with marital issues related to alleged infidelity. Reports suggest that after monitoring his wife for some time, he eventually caught her in an affair and arrested her lover. However, at the police station, Caleb was advised to address the matter privately with his wife instead of detaining the other man.
Following the incident, tension reportedly escalated in their marriage, leading to a series of unresolved conflicts since early January. The situation took a fatal turn when, according to the source, the wife allegedly drugged ASP Caleb’s meal, weakening him. Seizing the opportunity, she allegedly inflicted a grievous injury on him. Despite his weakened state, Caleb reportedly fought back in an act of retaliation.
Tragically, ASP Caleb succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while his wife was rushed to the ABUAD Teaching Hospital, where she was later confirmed dead. Their bodies have since been deposited at the mortuary.
Another acquaintance of the late officer, who also spoke on the tragedy, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “ASP Caleb was a very good and focused police officer—a reasonable personality in the Nigeria Police Force. I had many encounters with him, and he always wanted to solve people’s problems without really expecting much in return. Caleb shouldn’t have died like this. May God rest his soul,” he lamented.
The devastating incident has sparked conversations on domestic conflicts and the need for peaceful resolutions. “Divorce may not be biblical, but walking away from a toxic marriage is better than meeting an untimely death,” another source added.
The tragic deaths of ASP Caleb and his wife have left their family, colleagues, and acquaintances in deep sorrow. May their souls rest in peace.
