warns against indiscriminate waste disposal
The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to environmental hygiene as it prepares for the monthly sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, residents were urged to actively participate in the exercise to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment. She emphasized that environmental officers and security agencies have been mobilized to enforce compliance.
However, the government has granted special movement privileges to verified candidates sitting for the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Computer-Based Test (CBT) on the same day. The Commissioner directed security operatives and environmental officers to permit free movement for TESCOM applicants with valid invitations, as well as workers on essential duties and emergency responders.
The statement, signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Shakirat Muritala, advised the public to carry valid means of identification to facilitate unhindered movement. Waste management trucks will also be on the ground for proper refuse collection at designated government-approved sites.
Hajia Buge further warned against indiscriminate waste disposal, stressing that dumping refuse on pedestrian walkways, roadsides, drainages, and other unauthorized locations remains a punishable offense under existing environmental laws.
The government urged full cooperation from residents, highlighting that collective responsibility is key to sustaining a clean and healthy Kwara State.
