Aide to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has stirred political discussions with his assertion that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will switch allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2027 elections.

Speaking on TVC’s Breakfast Show on Wednesday, March 12, 2024, Bwala argued that Obi is likely to follow the path of his associate, Valentine Ozigbo, who recently joined the APC. He claimed that prominent figures from the Labour Party are gradually moving to the ruling party.

“Do you know we are emptying the Labour Party? Not because we asked them to come, but because they are coming,” Bwala stated. “Valentine Ozigbo has joined us, Balami has joined us, and even Peter Obi will join us. He will not run on the Labour Party’s platform; we are all leaving the party.”

His comments come weeks after Ozigbo resigned from the Labour Party, citing internal crises. Shortly after joining the APC, Ozigbo expressed hope that Obi would also make the switch.

“I told him a few things—not about coming to the APC—but I would like to welcome him someday if he so desires,” Ozigbo remarked.

However, contrary to these claims, speculations persist that Obi may align with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as part of a broader coalition against the APC. This speculation gained traction following the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the SDP.

Despite the swirling rumors, Peter Obi has not made any public statement regarding his political future, while the Labour Party maintains its commitment to zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the Southeast.
