Rusangu University took a significant step towards launching a Medical School, hosting a consultative meeting with the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) as part of its preparations. This was announced yesterday Lee Haamunji, Manager, Corporate Communication and Public Relations of the University through a press release issuesed.
This milestone marks a crucial moment in the university’s expansion plans, aimed at contributing to the healthcare sector and addressing the growing demand for qualified medical professionals in the region.

The process began with Rusangu University’s formal application to establish a Medical School, which received approval from the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) of the Seventh-day p Church. Following this, representatives from the General Conference (GC) Education and Health Departments visited the university to outline the requirements and standards necessary for the successful operation of a medical school.
While the Zambian government has granted its approval through HPCZ, the university is now seeking accreditation from HEA and the AAA, a critical step in ensuring the institution meets global Adventist educational standards.
“We are optimistic that, with adequate resources, the Medical School will be operational by next year,” said Dr. Tommy S. Namitondo, Rusangu University Council Chairperson. “This initiative reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, faith-based education and addressing the healthcare needs of our community.”
The establishment of the Medical School is expected to have a transformative impact on healthcare education and services in Zambia and beyond.
