UDUS Appoints Professor Tukur Adamu as Deputy Vice Chancellor

The University Governing Council of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) has announced the appointment of Professor Tukur Adamu as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation, and Development). The decision was made during the university’s 171st regular meeting held on Wednesday 12th of March, 2025.

According to the press release by the management, his appointment will last for an initial term of two years, in line with the Universities (Miscellaneous) Provisions Act, 1993 (as amended).

Professor Tukur Adamu, born on February 2, 1962, is a seasoned academic with vast experience in Parasitology. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Zoology from Ahmadu Bello University in 1986 and 1993, respectively. He later earned a Ph.D. in Zoology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in 1999. In addition, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, which he obtained in 2000.

His academic career began in 1989 when he joined UDUS as a Graduate Assistant. Over the years, he climbed the academic ladder, becoming a Professor in 2005.
His administrative experience is extensive, having served in key positions such as Head of Biological Sciences, Deputy Dean, and Director of the School of Matriculation Studies. Before his latest appointment, he was the Chairman of the Management Board of UDUS’s Centre for Open and Distance Education.

With this new role, Professor Adamu is expected to play a significant part in enhancing research, innovation, and development at the university. His leadership is anticipated to foster a more dynamic academic environment, drive research excellence, and strengthen UDUS’s reputation as a hub for scholarly advancement.
