Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially launched the Umuahia Dedicated Internet Access/Wide Area Network (WAN) Project at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat Complex, Umuahia, marking a significant step toward digital transformation in the state’s civil service and economy.

Announcing the initiative via his official Twitter handle, Governor Otti emphasized that the project is designed to modernize governance by integrating high-speed fibre-optic infrastructure and cutting-edge digital tools across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The initiative, powered by ipNX, a leading ICT company in Nigeria, will ensure seamless communication, rapid data exchange, and enhanced service delivery in Abia.
“This project launches us into a new era where technology drives the root-and-branch transformation of the civil service and beyond,” the governor stated.

Governor Otti further highlighted that the project aligns with his administration’s vision to create a digitally empowered workforce and position Abia as a hub for enterprise growth and innovation. By providing civil servants with advanced IT tools and skills, the initiative aims to boost efficiency and facilitate round-the-clock governance.
Beyond government operations, the project is expected to connect artisans and entrepreneurs to the digital economy, enabling them to trade on virtual platforms and expand their businesses.
“We are also investing in capacity-building programmes to upskill our workforce for the challenges of a digitally driven future. As we expand the network across the state, we envision a future where urban and rural communities alike share in the dividends of digital inclusion,” he added.
Governor Otti commended Mr. Gerald Ilukwe, the Chief Information Officer of Abia State, and his team for their dedication to the project, describing it as the beginning of a journey towards smarter governance, sustainable growth, and greater opportunities for Ndi Abia.
“The future is bright, and we are laying the foundation for a more connected and prosperous Abia State,” he concluded.
