A high-level delegation from the Kwara State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has praised the development strides of Irepodun Local Government under the leadership of Executive Chairman Hon. Abdulazeez Yakubu. Led by Permanent Secretary Mrs. Iyabo Modupe Adekeye, the team embarked on an extensive inspection tour, assessing key projects aimed at improving infrastructure, water supply, education, and economic growth in the area.
Preserving Cultural Heritage: Palaces Undergo Transformation
The delegation first visited the newly renovated palace of the Baale of Bwari, a testament to the administration’s commitment to preserving traditional institutions. The Baale lauded Hon. Yakubu’s visionary leadership, calling it the most impactful in the community’s history, and pledged unwavering support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In Esie Ijan ward, the Onijan’s palace, which is undergoing reconstruction after a 2021 fire, was also inspected. The Onijan extended prayers for both the chairman and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, recognizing their dedication to grassroots development. Similarly, in Agbele, the Baale’s palace has been completely remodeled, further demonstrating the administration’s focus on cultural heritage and governance.
Expanding Access to Clean Water
The delegation highlighted the local government’s commitment to water accessibility with visits to key borehole projects. These included a motorized borehole at the under-construction Oloro of Oro Kingdom’s palace, as well as similar facilities at the Olupo of Ajase Ipo’s palace and Ilorin Garage in Omu-Aran. These initiatives ensure a steady water supply for residents, alleviating water scarcity concerns.
Strengthening Education: A Focus on Special Needs
The tour included an inspection of the School for Special Needs, housed within St. Paul School in Omu-Aran. The government’s investment in renovations has transformed the facility, enhancing the learning environment for students. Teachers and pupils expressed their appreciation for the administration’s intervention, which has provided a more conducive atmosphere for education.
Economic Growth: Market and Transport Infrastructure Upgrade
Economic development efforts were evident in the ongoing transformation of the Omu-Aran – Ilorin garage, where modern lock-up shops are being constructed. The delegation also assessed the functionality of a motorized borehole at the garage, a move set to improve facilities for traders and transport operators.
In addition, the newly completed secretariat for the Nigerian Tailor’s Association stands as a symbol of support for local artisans. Many tailors have benefited from the chairman’s empowerment initiatives, receiving industrial sewing machines to boost productivity and income.
Boosting Legislative Efficiency
The newly renovated Legislative House was another highlight of the tour. Councillors commended Hon. Yakubu for creating a more functional environment for governance, enhancing their ability to serve the people effectively.
Acknowledgment and Future Plans
Expressing her satisfaction with the projects, Permanent Secretary Mrs. Adekeye commended the chairman for his commitment to grassroots development. She encouraged him to sustain the momentum, while Hon. Yakubu reaffirmed his dedication to community progress.
The chairman also mentioned additional projects beyond the inspection tour, such as the drilling of boreholes in multiple locations and the electrification of Obada Market. These initiatives, he emphasized, align with Governor Abdulrasaq’s vision for sustainable development in Kwara State.
The delegation’s visit reaffirmed the administration’s impact, as community leaders and residents acknowledged the positive changes across Irepodun LGA. With continued focus on infrastructure, education, and economic growth, Hon. Yakubu’s leadership is positioning the local government for long-term prosperity.
