Accuses Governor of Neglect and Misplaced Priorities
Wole Akindele, a notable figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a respected political analyst in Ekiti State, has taken a swipe at Governor Biodun Oyebanji over what he described as glaring governance failures under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.
In a strongly-worded statement, Akindele highlighted several sectors where the state government has underperformed, particularly pointing to the dilapidated road networks, especially in rural communities, that have made movement difficult and slowed economic growth.
He further decried the continued hike in tuition fees in Ekiti’s state-owned tertiary institutions, saying it has pushed higher education beyond the reach of average families, many of whom survive on subsistence farming and petty trading.
According to him, the cost of living has worsened under the APC government, with basic goods becoming unaffordable and poverty spreading fast across the state. He noted the administration’s lack of economic buffers to shield residents from national hardship.
Security was another area of concern, with Akindele lamenting the increase in violent crimes like kidnapping and robbery, which he attributed to poor strategy and lack of proactive governance.
He also faulted the administration for the erratic electricity supply and its adverse impact on small businesses, arguing that the government has failed to partner with relevant agencies for sustainable energy solutions.
Public infrastructure, including schools and health centers, are also suffering neglect, Akindele added, accusing Governor Oyebanji of abandoning governance for personal political advancement.
Rather than addressing pressing developmental needs, Akindele alleged that the governor has been fixated on reelection plans, squandering public funds on publicity stunts, awards, and political gatherings.
He concluded by urging Ekiti residents to hold the administration accountable and make informed choices in the next electoral cycle.
