The President of Journalists for Christ International Outreach, Lekan Otufodunrin, has called on media professionals to reflect the life and teachings of Jesus Christ in their journalistic practice, especially in the light of the Easter celebration.

In a devotional titled “Journalism: What Will Jesus Do?” published in The Word, a weekly publication of the group, Otufodunrin challenged Christian journalists to consider how Christ would report, write, and edit in today’s media landscape.

“Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did,” Otufodunrin quoted from 1 John 2:6, emphasizing the need for Christian journalists to emulate the truth, light, and life that Easter represents.

He drew inspiration from Charles M. Sheldon’s classic Christian novel, In His Steps, where media characters like Edward Norman, Editor of the Daily News, transformed their newsroom by asking the question, “What would Jesus do?” before every decision. According to Otufodunrin, this led them to reject sensationalism and uphold justice, compassion, and moral integrity.

He also referenced the sermon titled “What Will Jesus Write?” delivered in April 2017 by Mr. Amaso Jack, Discipleship Minister and Lecturer at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. Jack noted that if Jesus were a journalist today, He would write the truth (John 14:6), inscribe His nature in believers (2 Corinthians 3:2), and promote the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1–3), emphasizing humility, justice, and mercy.

“As ambassadors for Christ in the media, we must let the mind of Christ guide every decision we make,” Otufodunrin said.

He encouraged media professionals to see Easter not just as a historical celebration but as a call to revive ethical standards and integrity within the profession. “Imagine what Jesus would do if He ran your newsroom, your beat, or your media platforms,” he challenged.

He concluded with a heartfelt prayer and a call to action: “Lord, help me live and work like You. Let my reporting, writing, and editing reflect Your truth, love, and justice… Teach me to ask daily: What would Jesus do?
