In the aftermath of the recent unrest in Omu-Aran, which resulted in several injuries and the arrest of some individuals by the Nigerian Police, the Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Hon. Abdulazeez Yakubu, has assured residents that the situation is now under control and that an investigation is ongoing to ensure appropriate justice.
Speaking through his office, Hon. Yakubu expressed deep concern over the incident, which occurred on Wednesday and disrupted the peace of the town. He emphasized that immediate steps were taken to respond to the crisis, including dispatching local government representatives to Ilorin to facilitate the release of those believed to have been wrongfully arrested.
“As part of our commitment to justice and fairness, we are actively engaging with the authorities to secure the release of innocent residents and ensure that no one is unjustly punished,” the Chairman stated. “We are also cooperating with relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the root cause of the incident and ensure that justice is served appropriately.”
According to the statement, injured victims have received prompt medical attention, with Hon. Yakubu personally covering their hospital bills to guarantee their swift recovery and well-being.
While commending the patience and maturity displayed by the people of Omu-Aran during the tense moments, Hon. Yakubu called on residents—especially the youth—to remain calm and peaceful as the government works to address their concerns.
“We urge everyone to return to their normal activities without fear or panic. The local government is fully committed to maintaining law and order, and we will continue working closely with security agencies to prevent any recurrence of such incidents,” he said.
As investigations into the incident continue, the local government has reiterated its dedication to justice, transparency, and the protection of citizens’ rights across Irepodun Local Government Area.
