As South Africa prepares to host the G20 Summit in 2025 under the banner of inclusive growth and shared development, rural youth mustn’t be left behind in discussions about the future of work, skills, and opportunities. In this spirit, the Orange Nation has proudly announced its third hosting of the annual “Phunya Tsela Career Expo”.
According to a press release by Modiri Gabaatlhore, Corporate Affairs Manager of John Taolo Gaetsewe Development Trust, this program is taking place on 24–25 June 2025 at the Thabo Moorosi Multipurpose Centre in Mothibistad, South Africa.
“Phunya Tsela – meaning “Pave the Way” – is a collaborative youth development platform designed to expose over 4,000 Grade 12 learners from 32 high schools, annually in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, to career opportunities, skills development pathways, and funding support mechanisms.
This year’s initiative is powered by a unique multi-stakeholder coalition that includes mining houses, community development trusts, provincial government, and civil society, demonstrating the transformative potential of public-private partnerships in under-resourced regions”, Gabaatihole explained.

“We are not just investing in career exhibitions – we are investing in the futures of young people who will one day contribute to South Africa’s economy and global competitiveness,” said representatives from the partners. “Our commitment goes beyond compliance – it is about building sustainable communities”, he added.
GCIS has aligned its support for this programme with South Africa’s broader G20 engagement priorities, which include education equity, youth employability, and community-driven growth. The department recognises Phunya Tsela as a local intervention with national relevance – a model for inclusive development in action.
The event will feature: Career Exhibitions from TVETs, Universities, SETAs, and corporates
“Funding Navigator” stations to guide learners on bursaries and application support
Skills and Entrepreneurship Workshops
Sports, Arts, and Culture activations through the new Sports F.A.M.E. Education Hall
“As we mark Youth Month, Phunya Tsela stands as a testament to what is possible when partners unite behind a shared goal: to ensure no child is left behind because of where they live; ‘Driving high-impact sustainable change”, he declared.
