LAGOS — In a vibrant ceremony that drew top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State officially presented party flags to all 57 chairmanship candidates of the party ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The event, held at the State House, Marina, was attended by party stalwarts, community leaders, youth groups, and supporters. Each council delegation arrived in colourful traditional and APC-branded outfits, adding a festive touch to what was a highly political occasion.

Sanwo-Olu Urges Peaceful Elections

While presenting the flags, Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged candidates to campaign peacefully and remain committed to the values of service and accountability.

“Our democracy must continue to grow, and the local government is the bedrock of this process. Go to your wards and communities with a spirit of unity, not division. This election must not tear us apart but bring us closer as a party and as a people,” he said.

He further appealed to aspirants who did not secure tickets during the primaries to embrace reconciliation and join hands with the party’s official flagbearers to ensure victory.

APC Chairman Reaffirms Party Mandate

The State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, emphasized that the candidates receiving flags were duly selected through the party’s democratic processes.

“Let there be no ambiguity. These candidates are the officially endorsed representatives of our great party. We expect nothing short of loyalty, commitment, and excellence from them,” he stated.

Leadership at the Grassroots

Also speaking at the event, Lagos First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, reminded candidates that grassroots leadership requires visibility, compassion, and consistency.

“Local government leadership is closest to the people. As you campaign, do not forget that the people are not just voters — they are your neighbours, your community. Serve them with dignity and honour,” she advised.

Governor Sanwo-Olu added that winning elections is only the beginning, noting that true leadership requires teamwork with vice chairmen, councillors, and community representatives.

“The best leaders are those who listen, act, and inspire. Your impact must be felt in the streets, schools, clinics, and markets of your councils,” he said.

Looking Ahead

With local government elections approaching, the APC is intensifying its mobilization efforts across all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs. Political analysts note that the peaceful flag presentation signals the party’s preparedness and internal cohesion ahead of the polls.

The ceremony ended with group photographs, solidarity chants, and informal interactions between the candidates and party leadership.
