Governor Abdulrazaq Celebrates Kwara United’s Federation Cup Win, President’s Debate Victory

In a momentous weekend for Kwara State, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has commended the Kwara United Football Club and the state’s senior school debate contingent for making history with national victories in their respective fields.

Kwara United on Saturday clinched the 2025 President Federation Cup — marking the first time any team from the state has lifted the coveted trophy since Kwara’s creation in 1967. The Harmony Boys defeated Abakaliki FC in a thrilling final that drew support from fans at home and abroad.

Governor Abdulrazaq, who joined the team to celebrate the win, described the victory as a testament to “team spirit, discipline, determination, and grit.” He extended heartfelt congratulations to the players, coaching staff, management, the Sports Commission, and the supporters’ club for what he called “a remarkable feat.”

“I’m overwhelmed with joy as we bring home this prestigious trophy,” he said. “I am particularly grateful to the people of our state, including Kwarans in the Diaspora, for their overwhelming support.”

In a related development, Kwara State also emerged champion at the 2025 President School Debate Competition (Senior Category) — the first time the state has won in this category. The Governor praised the students and education authorities for sustaining what he described as a culture of excellence.

“This is not a fluke,” he said. “For three consecutive years, our pupils under the State Universal Basic Education have held the national title in the junior category. This latest senior category win proves the consistency of our investment in youth development and education.”

Governor Abdulrazaq reaffirmed that these accomplishments reflect the state’s long-term commitment to sports and education, emphasizing that the results are products of strategic planning and dedication.

“These victories are proof that our achievements across various sectors are not mere flashes of luck, but the outcome of purposeful policies and hard work,” he said.

The Governor concluded by congratulating all Kwarans — both at home and abroad — for the dual achievements, expressing optimism for more milestones that would continue to put Kwara on the national and global stage.
