IREPODUN, KWARA STATE — A fresh wave of political tension is brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Irepodun Local Government Area as a self-acclaimed faction known as the “G-7” stirs controversy with a recent call for what it describes as a “common sense revolution.” However, loyal stakeholders and grassroots mobilizers of the party have swiftly pushed back, warning of the dangers such rhetoric could pose to the unity and progress of the ruling party.

In a strongly worded rejoinder made available to ABNews, a coalition of Concerned Political Gladiators within the APC dismissed the G-7’s activities as unconstitutional, self-serving, and potentially disruptive. They noted that the group lacks official recognition within the party’s structure and cautioned the public against aligning with what they described as a “phantom agenda.”

“The so-called G-7 is not registered in any known organogram of the APC either at the ward or local government level. Their so-called revolution is neither party-sanctioned nor people-centered,” the statement read.

Of particular concern to the party loyalists is the group’s use of the term “revolution,” which they say raises red flags in a democratic space like Irepodun. Drawing on Yoruba wisdom, the group warned that actions sparked by vague revolutionary language could spiral beyond control and fracture the peaceful fabric of the local government.

“Ìbèrè òrò là mọ, ènìkan kìí mọ òpin rè. We know how this begins, but no one knows how it might end. We must not let self-serving ambitions threaten our hard-earned peace,” the statement emphasized.

The stakeholders questioned the timing of the G-7’s agitation, especially as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration continues to deliver visible infrastructural dividends across the state. They argued that any move capable of distracting the government or dividing the APC ranks at this time could be interpreted as sabotage.

“This is not the time for distractions. Hon. Abdulazeez Yakub Tinuola has been performing impressively since assuming office as Executive Chairman of Irepodun. This is the time for unity, not rebellion disguised as reform,” they added.

They called on the party’s internal leadership mechanisms to act swiftly in addressing what they described as budding factionalism. The rejoinder concluded with an appeal for calm and collective focus on the development of Irepodun and the strengthening of the APC ahead of future political contests.

This latest development underscores the delicate nature of political alignments within local party chapters and the growing call for discipline in internal party affairs. As the APC in Irepodun continues to consolidate its hold, political watchers will be monitoring whether the leadership will engage with or clamp down on the G-7 movement.
