As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections, a strong message of confidence and readiness has emerged from the North Central zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Issa Abubakar, the Zonal Legal Officer of the party, has reaffirmed the strength, structure, and legal clarity of the PDP, particularly in the North Central region, while calling for unity and focus within the party ranks.

In a statement made available to ABNews, Abubakar praised the ongoing efforts of party members, singling out the renewed leadership spirit of Senator Bukola Saraki in Kwara State as an example of the determination driving the party forward.

“With Senator Saraki’s renewed commitment and the loyalty of our members across the North Central states, we are confident that the PDP is strategically positioned and well-prepared for the 2027 elections,” he said.

While acknowledging recent movements of some politicians toward informal political coalitions, Abubakar issued a firm legal reminder.

“The law is clear – one cannot belong to or operate under two political parties at the same time,” he noted.
“The recent Supreme Court judgment on the 27 Rivers lawmakers is a reminder that once a politician openly declares for another party without officially resigning from the current one, it constitutes defection and abandonment of their original party.”

He further explained that such dual affiliations or informal alignments could render aspirants ineligible for election, serving as a caution to both individuals and political parties across the country.

On ADC and Political Coalitions

Abubakar described the activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other emerging coalition movements as lacking serious political weight.

“These formations are mostly made up of individuals who have lost political relevance within the PDP or are seeking personal political gain, especially the 2027 presidential ticket. Their alignment is more about factional ambitions tied to Atiku than any meaningful ideological shift,” he stated.

He referred to the groups as “coalitions of personalities rather than purpose,” describing them as driven more by political desperation than by vision.

PDP Is Stronger and More United

Despite what some see as setbacks, Abubakar emphasized that the PDP has become stronger and more unified following recent defections.

“What we see now is a PDP free of internal sabotage, guided by young, committed leaders and focused on providing real alternatives to Nigerians,” he said.
“Those who left – Governors, Senators, and others – are not a loss. Their exits reflect opportunism, not strength.”

He called on elders, leaders, and stakeholders across the region to close ranks and reposition the party in the hearts of Nigerians, insisting that the time for healing and consolidation is now.

Mobilization for 2027 Has Begun

Abubakar concluded his statement with a rallying call to party loyalists across the North Central region.

“Let the defectors exercise their constitutional rights; we will focus on building. Our mobilization efforts for 2027 have already begun – with clarity, structure, and unity at the core.”

He ended with a patriotic affirmation:

“God bless the PDP.
God bless the North Central.
God bless Nigeria.”
