In a remarkable show of regional political unity, Hon. Abdulazeez Yakubu Aremu (Tinuola), the Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area, hosted top political leaders and grassroots stakeholders from across Kwara South for the 7th edition of the Kwara Equity Meeting — a growing political forum pushing for coordinated development and inclusive governance.

Held at the Irepodun LG Secretariat Hall, the forum was not merely another political gathering but a deliberate effort to deepen inter-local government collaboration, foster equitable representation, and reinforce the shared vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration in Kwara State.

Among the high-profile attendees were the Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola; Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Princess Bukola Babalola; elder statesman, General Abidoye (rtd); and political figure Hon. Chief AbdulRaheem Oloriewe. Chairmen and deputies from all seven LGAs in Kwara South, councillors, party members, and community influencers were also present.

Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola emphasized the need for unity and strategic coordination across the senatorial zone. “This platform is critical to aligning our political direction and ensuring that Kwara South continues to play a defining role in the state’s future. Together, we can drive a political culture rooted in equity, growth, and lasting impact,” he said.

Princess Bukola Babalola, representing the state government, used the occasion to reiterate Governor AbdulRazaq’s development agenda. “The achievements of this administration are evident, especially in underserved areas. From roads to classrooms, we’re pushing development to the grassroots, and your support makes it stronger,” she noted.

In a tone laced with wisdom and warning, Gen. Abidoye praised the initiative while urging sustained collaboration. “It’s not just about today. We must stay vigilant and united to defend the progress we’ve made. Governance must be about people and purpose,” he said.

Echoing a similar sentiment, former commissioner Hon. Chief Oloriewe highlighted the importance of consistency. “Equity cannot be seasonal. It must be a permanent tool for fair governance and strategic thinking,” he urged.

A major highlight of the meeting was the introduction of two local support structures—SYD Group and AA Mandete Forum—described by Hon. Tinuola as community-driven political hubs meant to consolidate grassroots engagement. “We’re not just talking about politics here; we are building channels through which our people are directly involved in governance and decision-making,” he stated.

The meeting wrapped up with a resounding vote of thanks from Hon. Gani Abolarin, Chief Whip of the Kwara State House of Assembly and representative of Ekiti Constituency, who praised the collaborative atmosphere and urged continuous dialogue. “This is what political maturity looks like. We are stronger when we talk together, walk together, and plan together,” he affirmed.

Beyond the speeches and networking, the 7th Kwara Equity Meeting underscored a larger shift in political engagement across the zone — from competition to collaboration, from fragmented efforts to strategic unity.

As Kwara South continues to evolve politically and economically, forums like this are positioning the region as a model for grassroots development and cooperative leadership, with ripple effects likely to shape future elections and governance in the state.
