The race for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election has taken a new turn as Hon. Mrs. Ogun Funmi Theresa (popularly known as OFT) formally declared her ambition to govern the state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mrs. Funmi, accompanied by a large crowd of party loyalists and supporters, stormed the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Thursday where she picked up both the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.
In her remarks, the aspirant expressed gratitude to party members who stood by her physically and those who supported her in prayers from home. She described the turnout as overwhelming, noting that it was a clear sign of hope and victory ahead.
“Without mincing words, I want to wholeheartedly appreciate all the PDP faithful who moved with me to Wadata House to pick the governorship nomination and expression of interest forms, and also the numerous supporters at home who were in spirit with us, praying for the success of this journey,” she said.
The female governorship hopeful, who has been vocal about good governance and grassroots development, assured her supporters that her ambition is rooted in service, unity, and prosperity for Ekiti people.
“I am overwhelmed with the multitude of people I have seen around me, which indicates that joy is coming and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. With you firmly behind me and the help of the Almighty God, nothing can stop us from attaining the number one seat in the state,” she declared.
Her declaration has further energized conversations within Ekiti PDP, with many party members viewing her ambition as a bold step towards inclusive leadership, especially with increasing calls for women’s participation in politics.
Mrs. Funmi, who ended her address with her signature slogan “OFT… Only God”, pledged to run an issue-based campaign and promised that her government, if elected, would prioritize education, youth empowerment, agriculture, women inclusion, and infrastructural development in Ekiti State.
