The security architecture of Esan West Local Government Area received a major boost this week as Acting Chairman, Hon. Blessing Ebhodaghe, took delivery of a new batch of motorcycles supplied by the Edo State Government under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The motorcycles, part of the state’s broader strategy to enhance rural and community policing, were delivered from the state capital to Ekpoma, the Esan West headquarters, on Wednesday. The move follows Governor Okpebholo’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security operations across local councils in response to rising cases of banditry and kidnapping in some parts of the state.

Speaking during the reception of the security bikes, Hon. Ebhodaghe commended the governor for his swift and deliberate response to the security challenges confronting local communities. He described the gesture as a “timely intervention” that would help consolidate the council’s recent anti-crime measures.

“Our people must feel safe in their homes,” Ebhodaghe stated. “These motorcycles will help our security teams move faster and respond better to emergencies. The governor’s proactive steps show his genuine concern for the lives and property of Edo citizens. We are not relenting — criminals will either relocate or be flushed out.”

The acting chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order, revealing that the motorcycles would be deployed after consultations with security stakeholders, including the military, police, vigilante, and community task forces.

Ebhodaghe, who had earlier declared a crackdown on kidnappers and criminal hideouts, noted that the council had begun implementing various reforms — including the prohibition of open grazing in certain areas, expansion of access routes to red zones, and ongoing community consultations.

“Our approach remains intelligence-driven,” he added. “We are working closely with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and security agencies to ensure coordinated operations and lasting peace in Esan West.”

The initiative marks another step in the Okpebholo administration’s statewide campaign to reinforce grassroots security and restore public confidence in rural communities.
