The Deeper Christian Life Ministry has issued a strong denial over a report circulating online that falsely attributed political comments to its General Superintendent, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi. The Church, in an official statement released on Monday, described the publication as malicious, misleading, and entirely fabricated.
The controversial story, published by an obscure online platform identified as Ibomfocus, carried the headline: “America is Trying to Steal Our Natural Resources; There is No Christian Genocide in Nigeria, Says Pastor Kumuyi.” The Deeper Life Ministry stated unequivocally that the report is “a total fabrication and the figment of the imagination of its authors,” noting that Pastor Kumuyi never made such a statement nor held any press conference in Lagos as alleged.
According to the statement, the revered cleric has been away from Nigeria for a considerable period, currently engaged in a series of gospel programmes across the Oceania region and the Far East. The ministry emphasized that the purported comments could not have emanated from him, as he has been fully occupied with ministerial engagements outside the country.
It further stressed that Pastor Kumuyi is widely recognized for his focus on preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and for maintaining a clear distance from partisan politics. “He does not dabble into political matters, as the false report sought to suggest,” the statement clarified, reaffirming that his ministry’s activities remain centered solely on spiritual and moral transformation.
The Deeper Christian Life Ministry expressed deep concern over the growing trend of misinformation and character assassination targeting respected religious leaders in Nigeria. It warned those responsible for spreading falsehoods and attempting to drag Pastor Kumuyi’s name into political controversies to desist from such actions. The statement concluded with a firm caution that any further attempts to malign or misrepresent the Church or its leader may attract appropriate action in the future.
