Orders INEC to Monitor Process

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has reaffirmed its earlier directive allowing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to proceed with its 2025 Elective National Convention scheduled for Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Presiding Judge, Justice Ladiran Akintola, delivered the latest ruling on Friday, November 14, 2025, after hearing arguments from all parties involved, including counsel representing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The court reiterated its interim order issued on November 3, compelling INEC to attend, monitor, and observe the convention as required by law.

The judgement clears the final obstacle ahead of the party’s much-anticipated national convention, which aims to elect new officers into key positions across the PDP’s national structure.

Friday’s proceedings also included submissions relating to motions and objections filed by various parties, including representatives of the PDP National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), and state and zonal party officials seeking to be joined in the matter.

After reviewing affidavits, counter-affidavits, written addresses, and arguments presented by multiple senior lawyers, the court maintained that the applicant had established sufficient grounds for judicial intervention to prevent disruptions to the scheduled convention.

With this ruling, the court has directed the PDP to adhere to the established guidelines and timetable for the convention, while mandating INEC to be present to oversee the exercise.

The decision sets the stage for the PDP to proceed with its national convention in Ibadan this weekend.
