Engr. Ajewole Damilare (Ajewolede) has expressed deep sorrow over the unexpected passing of his close friend and political associate, Otunba Ganiyu Zubair, describing the loss as a “pain that settles in the soul.”
In an emotional tribute on Friday, Ajewole recounted how the news of Zubair’s death came as a devastating shock, especially at a time when both men were nurturing strong hopes and shared aspirations ahead of the next election cycle.
He noted that Zubair, fondly called Ganzy, was a young man defined by vision, humility and uncommon loyalty—qualities that endeared him to many within and beyond their political circle.
According to Ajewole, their conversations frequently revolved around the future, leadership roles, and the contributions they hoped to make toward building a better society. He said Zubair carried those ambitions with sincerity and a calm determination that made his dreams believable.
“Ganzy had a pure heart and a future that many of us believed would blossom beautifully. Thinking of our discussions about the next election brings both pride and sorrow—pride for the sincerity he carried, and sorrow that he is no longer here to witness what he worked for,” Ajewole said.
He also recalled the heartbreaking moment he phoned Zubair’s line only to hear the trembling voice of his wife confirming his death. “It was a moment that shattered me completely,” he stated.

Ajewole prayed for God to strengthen the widow, comfort the bereaved family, and grant eternal rest to the late Zubair, whom he described as “a brother, a companion, and a man of rare character.”
“Farewell, my brother and friend,” he concluded. “You may have left this world, but the goodness you lived by will remain with us. Sleep on, Ganzy.”
