The Kwara State Government has firmly denied claims that it awarded a contract or empowerment deal worth $800 million (over N1.2 trillion) to the elder brother of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, describing the allegation as false, reckless and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, the government dismissed comments reportedly made by Hon. Iliasu Ibrahim during a radio programme, in which he alleged that Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq, the Mutawali of Ilorin and elder brother to the governor, was awarded a contract of such magnitude.

According to the government, “At no time did the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq award any contract worth $800 million to anyone.” The claim, the statement added, was “baseless, malicious and intended to incite public disaffection.”

The government noted that the accusers failed to name any specific Federal Government programme or project allegedly linked to Dr. Alimi, stressing that he is not a contractor but a respected senior lawyer and a Bencher.

“Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq is an accomplished legal practitioner and not a contractor. Moreover, Kwara State has never received — nor awarded — any Federal Government project or empowerment programme anywhere near the value of $800 million,” the statement clarified.

While acknowledging the right to freedom of expression, the state government warned that such freedom must be exercised responsibly, especially on public broadcast platforms. It faulted the radio station involved for allegedly allowing what it described as “disinformation” to be aired without proper checks or caution from its management.

The government also urged the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to look into the matter and take appropriate action, adding that individuals maligned during the programme reserve the right to seek redress.

Although the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a probe into the alleged transaction, the state government insisted that there is nothing to investigate, as no such contract or empowerment deal was ever awarded.

The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard the claims, stressing that the AbdulRazaq-led administration remains focused on transparency, accountability and good governance in Kwara State.

The statement was signed by Bolanle Olukoju, Commissioner for Communications, Kwara State Government, and dated December 4, 2025.
