Hon. Tunji Olawuyi, member representing Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has introduced two major bills aimed at advancing local governance and improving Nigeria’s security framework.
In a statement on Tuesday, Olawuyi said the first proposal, the Constitution Amendment Bill (HB 2635), seeks the creation of additional Local Government Areas in Kwara State, particularly within his constituency. He explained that the initiative is designed to deepen grassroots governance, enhance administrative efficiency, and bring development closer to communities that have long clamoured for better representation.
The second bill, the Amendment of the Private Guards Companies Act (HB 2668), focuses on strengthening the country’s security architecture. According to the lawmaker, the amendment will empower licensed private guard companies to take on broader responsibilities in security delivery. This, he noted, would allow the Police and other government security agencies to concentrate on core duties such as criminal investigations, intelligence gathering, and prosecution, instead of routine VIP protection.
Olawuyi described both bills as vital to the growth of his constituency and the stability of the nation, adding that they reflect a commitment to responsive and people-centered lawmaking.
“We will continue to pursue legislative policies that promote development, security, and good governance,” he assured.
