Okpebholo Leads Edo’s Nine Lessons and Carols Celebration

Benin City came alive with hymns, prayers, and a strong message of unity as the Edo State Government hosted the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, ushering residents into the 2025 Christmas season in a spirit of reflection and togetherness.

Held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, the event drew a large gathering of worshippers, religious leaders, and government officials who joined Governor Monday Okpebholo in celebrating the season through music, scripture, and fellowship.

Speaking during the service, Governor Okpebholo read from Psalm 9:3–7, using the passage to remind residents of God’s faithfulness and the importance of collective responsibility in building a peaceful and progressive Edo State. He assured the people that his administration remains resolute in ensuring safety, stability, and inclusive governance across all communities.

The governor described the Christmas season as a time to renew hope, strengthen unity, and recommit to shared values that promote harmony and development. He noted that peace remains central to his administration’s vision, adding that Edo State continues to enjoy a secure environment for residents and visitors alike.

In her remarks, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, emphasized the deeper meaning of Christmas, urging citizens to embrace love, generosity, and selflessness as guiding principles in their daily lives. She noted that such values are essential for sustaining peaceful coexistence and social cohesion.

The evening was enriched by soul-lifting renditions from various church choirs across the state, whose performances created an atmosphere of reverence and celebration. Guests were also treated to a raffle draw, adding excitement and warmth to the occasion.

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was widely hailed as a meaningful celebration that blended worship with community spirit, reinforcing the Okpebholo administration’s message of faith, unity, and hope as Edo State steps into the Christmas season.
